Frequently Asked Questions

How does the two-way translation work?

The translator auto-detects your input. If you type regular text, it converts to Braille. If you paste Braille Unicode characters, it translates back to text. No mode switching needed.

What type of Braille does this use?

This uses Grade 1 Braille (Uncontracted Braille), which is a direct letter-by-letter transcription. It does not use Grade 2 contractions or abbreviations. This makes the output easy to verify and learn from.

Can I copy Braille text to social media?

Yes. Braille characters are standard Unicode (U+2800 to U+28FF) and display correctly on Discord, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, and most modern platforms and devices.

What are capital indicators?

In Braille, there's no uppercase/lowercase distinction. To indicate a capital letter, a special prefix character (⠠) is placed before it. The "With Capital Indicators" output includes these markers.

Is this suitable for learning Braille?

The character reference table shows each letter with its Braille equivalent and dot positions, making it a helpful study aid. However, this tool generates visual Unicode representations — for tactile Braille learning, dedicated embossing tools are needed.

Does it support numbers and punctuation?

Yes. Numbers use the Braille number indicator (⠼) followed by the letter equivalent, as per standard convention. Common punctuation marks including periods, commas, question marks, exclamation points, colons, and semicolons are supported.

Troubleshooting

Braille characters appear blank or invisible

The Braille space character (⠀) and some low-dot patterns can appear nearly invisible on certain displays. The characters are present — try selecting the text or increasing your font size to verify.

The reverse translation has missing characters

If the Braille input contains multi-cell sequences (like numbers with the ⠼ prefix), they should be translated correctly. Characters outside the supported English alphabet and punctuation set will pass through as-is.

Non-English text isn't converted

This translator currently supports English Braille (letters a-z, numbers 0-9, and common punctuation). Characters from other languages or special symbols will remain unchanged in the output.
